PRIVATE GEORGE SMITH, 15th DIVISION, KILLED ON THE 28th JULY 1918

Thanks to Kevin Gray who sent us this information and a photograh of his Great Uncle.

 

 

Son of Mr and Mrs H. Smith of South Ockendon, Essex, England. Enlisting at Southend, Essex (Service Number: S/8050), George Smith was transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders (8th Battalion).

An Englishman serving in a Scottish Regiment, and during the 2nd Battle of the Marne, serving the French 20th Army Corps as a member of the British 15th (Scottish) Division.

George Smith was killed in action on 28th July 1918, he was 27 years old.

His grave is Number I.E.6. in the British Military cemetery at Buzancy.
